Get ready now for your New Years Resolution. Yep, that gives you more than a quarter to prepare. Ever wonder why most people’s resolutions fail? Ever wonder why when goals are set they are not completed? The reason is because goal setting and resolutions (change) take carful planning and a lot of work. Here are a couple of suggestions to boost your success.
In life coaching I have taken a new approach this year and it has worked for many people. In order to have sustained results a person must really make a change, a change from within, a change in lifestyle. For instance, a typical New Years Resolution is to loose weight and exercise. We all know that to loose weight you must burn more calories than you consume. There is some tweaking there to with what you eat and how you burn the calories, but that information is readily available. So armed with that information everyone should be in good shape and happy with their appearance, right?
That is right, if you plan properly, set goals and change your lifestyle. I am not saying that everyone should do this, no judgment here, this is only an example there are plenty of people for whom this is not a priority. Back to the change, in order for a person to loose weight and have better fitness (for a sustained period), they have to be, “I am a healthy eater and a fit person.” Then they have to follow that up with the integrity of being that person and setting goals to stay on track. I will discuss the art of goal setting in another post.
The same holds true with anything you want to change about yourself. To make a change you have to be the change, you have to change who you are in relation to the behavior you want changed. Many people can do this themselves and others benefit from a coach.
